Welcome to the Turkish Board of Pulmonary Disease

The Turkish Board of Pulmonary Disease was jointly established by the Turkish Thoracic Society and the Turkish Respiratory Society in the year 2000 in order to improve and raise the standards of residency education in Turkey, to render residency education compliant with international and national standards, and to satisfy the educational needs of our country.

As the third Qualification Board that was established in Turkey, the Turkish Board of Pulmonary Disease developed the concepts of core curriculum, the number of minimum interventions and the resident’s log book in 2001, and began to perform competency exams in 2002. However, the Board was unsuccessful in its attempt to render the practices of core curriculum and resident’s log book common and widespread in educational institutions.

The main objective of the Turkish Board of Pulmonary Diseaseis to improve and raise the standards of residency education in Turkey, to render residency education compliant with international and national standards, and to thereby improve the quality of health services provided to the public.

In this context, the Turkish Board of Pulmonary Diseaseaims to:

  1. To improve the quality of residency education in institutions that provide residency programs in Pulmonary Disease by determining standards for the educational environment, the instructors and the curricula.
  2. To evaluate whether specialist physicians who wish to be certified are actually able to meet the minimum educational standards for residency education (aside from having a specialty diploma, which is mandatory to work as a specialist physician, and is provided by the Ministry of Health).
  3. To include physicians into competency exams, to provide successful ones with Board Certificate, and to monitor periodically the competency of the physicians it previously certified.
