Founded in 1970, Turkish Respiration Society (TRS) is the first expertise society, active in the field of thoracic diseases with over 1900 members. Our members consist of thoracic diseases, thoracic surgery, physiology specialists, assistants and tuberculosis control dispensary physicians and scientists in various branches of our field.
The main objective of our society, which is going to celebrate its 41st anniversary in 2011, is "to keep the lungs of Turkish people healthy by supporting social and occupatial training and research." Continuing to work in line with its main goal since the day it was founded, Turkish Respiratory Society has been growing faster by adding institutionalization activities to its conventional training activities. Main policy of our society in the last few years has been to become more participative and more open to innovation and change, and to emphasize "Social Training" more. We would like to state that our society's main concept is to "show respect to all members and use all of our means to have everyone under their desired positions within the society."
Having been contributed to training for all branches regarding thoracic diseases for 41 years in our country, Turkish Respiratory Society had 32 National Congresses and many internationally participated congress and symposiums in this time frame. Our association led the way and hosted an international thoracic diseases congress in our country for the first time with the 17th Asia Pacific Thoracic Diseases Congress (APCDC 2003), organized in collaboration with American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) with more than 100 international speakers, and many of our colleagues worked at this congress. TÜSAD has enabled many specialists to be with our doctors through its organizations and is going to continue to do so.
Branches of TRS and its 13 work goups continue to work actively. You will hear about the training activities planned by the branches of TRS and its work goups more frequently over time. Ten TRS Regional Symposiums, which lasted one full day, and planned as graduation training program in various regions, have been completed. These activities are going to continue regularly.
"SOLUNUM" journal, issued 6 times per year regularly, is sent to the members of the society. Besides, first issues of TRS Books series have been published and began to be sent to our members. As a COPD Working Group activity, " COPD Bulletin" is published 4 issues per year. Again, as a COPD Working Group activity, the poster, that has been prepared to inform the society regarding COPD, has been distributed to all health care centers and hospitals by The Minstry of Health. Besides, SOLUNUM AKTÜEL started to be published as TRS bulletin, 3 issues per year in 2009. In addition to informing our colleagues regarding TRS's activities, covering up to date topics, SOLUNUM AKTÜEL has aroused the interest of our colleagues with its different content from its first issue.
